Judge in Vick Case Wastes Taxpayer Money

November 25th, 2008 by Quan Tranh

Our fine example today of government waste comes from Judge Samuel Campbell. In a recent story at ESPN The Dishonorable Judge Campbell managed to show us what an enemy of the taxpayer he is.

Former NFL quarterback Michael Vick won’t be allowed to plead guilty to dogfighting charges by videoconference, a judge ruled Thursday.

Vick’s lawyers had requested that he be allowed to enter the plea from federal prison in Leavenworth, Kan., where he is serving a two-year term since admitting he bankrolled a dogfighting operation and helped execute dogs.

But citing high public interest in the case, Surry County Circuit Judge Samuel Campbell said it would be better for Vick to appear in person.

It’s amazing that Vick’s defense team understand good business sense and they’re environmentally friendly. You now have to believe that they’re the smart ones in this case. We have to give props to them for respecting our wallets and the environment. Better than the other idiot in the case.

The Dishonorable Judge Campbell decides it is in the tax payer’s interest to have Vick flown from Kansas to Virginia just to plead guilty. Here’s a judge that must have been a GM worker at one point since he believes that the US taxpayers should be footing the bill to move Vick from federal prison to a local jail just to show up and say the word “guilty”. This does nothing for expediency and it holds up the process going forward. Business does not get done effectively by waiting to see someone in person when the telephone or Go To Meeting will do. We should also consider the carbon footprint that Campbell has left in his wake due to the fact that there is “interest”. The other thing mentioned on the radio today is that no reporters or video cameras will be allowed in the court room. Let me get this straight. There is a high public interest in me footing the bill to have Vick flown to Virginia, but I’m not allowed to see what is going on in the name of public interest. Where is the logic in that? Where is the common sense in that? How is this good for my wallet? How is it good for the environment? I think we need to name the next “C” hurricane after Campbell since the carbon released into the atmosphere in the public interest will contribute to warmer oceans and the next years hurricane season.

Hopefully the people of Virginia will terminate the Dishonorable Judge Campbell at the next election. In the mean time I have provided the contact information for the court if you want to write and express your outrage.

Hero On Trial

November 18th, 2008 by Quan Tranh

In Bartow County an innocent man is about to face a murder charge due to the stupidity of the Deputy District Attorney Mickey Thacker.

Prosecutors say motorcyclist Antonio Hall drove at a dangerous and excessive speed as he tried to evade the state troopers who were chasing him.

But prosecutors also say that didn’t give Bartow County recreation supervisor Jeff Brooks the right to steer his county truck into Hall’s path, causing the collision that killed Hall.

“He is not a law enforcement officer,” prosecutor Mickey Thacker told the court.  “There was no need for him to be involved in this pursuit.”

Mr. Brooks just did a great service to the taxpayers of the State of Georgia by helping the Georgia State Patrol stop a fleeing felon (fleeing itself is a felony).  So instead of giving Mr. Brooks a community service award, he’s instead up on murder charges.  Personally I think Mickey Thacker is an asshat who is an enemy of the tax payer.  He wants to give felons a break and put useful citizens in jail. Thank God there aren’t any terrorists in Bartow County.  He would probably want to let them have a free ride too.  We need less felons breathing our air and Mr. Brooks has done the world a service by reducing the carbon footprint of what is now a non-entity.  If you want justice, Mr. Thacker, your effort is better spent building a time machine to go back and prevent Mr. Hall’s death than attempting to do harm to useful members of society.

Congratulations you win our stupid lawyer of the week award.

Here is his contact information if you want to drop off your comments to him directly or to his boss.

Why I Support Gay Marriage

November 15th, 2008 by Quan Tranh

According to Bill O’ Reilly the following will happen if gays are allowed to marry.

O’REILLY: So you can see the debate over gay marriage is now a full fledge national battle. As talking points said last night the election of Barack Obama has emboldened secular progressives who feel it is their time. Gay marriage just the beginning. Other cultural war issues will also be in display very shortly. These include limiting gun possession, legalizing narcotics, unrestricted abortion and the revocation of the Patriot Act.

I’m not too crazy over limiting gun possession because guns are a form of population control.  But legalizing narcotics is great since the War on Drugs is a total failure and overdosing on narcotics is an effective form of population control.  Attempting to mug people for your next fix ties population control nicely into the right to own a gun.

It is interesting that O’Reilly ties gay marriage to unrestricted abortion.  I had no idea gay men need abortions.  Unrestricted abortion is something that the whole world needs.  With 200 million more people than there are jobs it says we need to stop reproducing and get rid of some of the people we have.

Revocation of the Patriot Act.  Well, there’s a big steaming pile of shit that just needs to go away.  Idiots like O’ Reilly claim that the Patriot Act is for national security.  What he and his supporters do not realize is that any security measure must be commisurate with what it is protecting.  The Patriot Act is a waste of time and money as well as a tool to infrienge on the liberty of US citizens.  It is not possible to reduce a risk to zero, nor does it make sense to spend a large amount of money on protecting something with a lower value than the cost of those protections.

Yes, I’ve heard the argument that we could have an entire city get nuked off the face of the earth by terrorists with a suitcase bomb. That really isn’t going to make a difference.  After 9/11 many businesses adopted guidelines to open offices and datacenters in separate geographic regions.  Many companies in New York City could have their offices destroyed tomorrow and still continue operating.  Those that chose not to implement the post 9/11 guidelines will be out of business which leaves other companies an opportunity to step in and take over their customers.  The odds of being killed in a large scale terrorist attack are very remote compared to lightning or gun shot.  Based on the numbers I can’t really justify the expense and inconvenience of keeping the Patriot Act around either.

If gay marriage is going to bring about all of the above things then we really need to fight for the rights of our gay citizens.  Even if you don’t believe in gay marriage, support the cause just to make Bill O’ Reilly cry.

Next They Want Your Chocolate

November 8th, 2008 by Quan Tranh

A wake up call to the citizens of “Colly-Fornia”. You have just been taken over by the Christian Taliban. The Mormons were primary out of state supporters for Proposition 8, which has banned gay marriage in California. The tricky thing is that Proposition 8 bans gay marriage with a Yes vote. If you voted no to Proposition 8 you were for gay marriage. The tricky thing I heard on the radio was that a group of religious nuts went into the liberal urban areas of California and were circulating literature stating that Proposition 8 was for gay marriage. What may have happened is that some people voted against gay marriage when they were personally for it.

There are multiple things wrong with this scenario. Marriage is a private affair. Neither the state nor the church should have any say in the topic. Licensing of marriage is just another tax and is only millimeters away from a time when the King of England decided who could get married and who couldn’t. The only difference is that it’s a bunch of bureaucrats, rather than a monarch who is owned by the church. Is there a situation where it is even appropriate to divulge that you are married? What about Medical and Car insurance perhaps? No, you simply say there are two people in this household and we want to pay extra on a single policy for two people. As far as total strangers go, I don’t need to know if you’re single, married, gay married, swingers, asexual, or what. Just make me a damn soy latte so I can get the hell of out of Starbuck’s. The same goes for friends as well. If I’m hanging out to watch the game, it doesn’t mean I need to know how your household runs.

The other problem I have with the Mormons is they’re messing with another state. I’m all for them doing what they want, provided it’s within the boundaries of their home base of Salt Lake City. What your neighbor does is none of your business. If you don’t like your neighbor then pack up and move.

If the Mormons are willing to screw with California lifestyle, how safe are the rest of us? Mormons don’t smoke or drink. You can expect them, like the Taliban, to be forcing this view on the rest of the country. Mormons don’t like chocolate, coffee, tea, or Coca-Cola because they have caffeine in them. This means that carbonated beverages with your lunch are out the door, along with chocolate cake for dessert. The Mormons are on the verge of waging war on The South by trying to take down our unique institutions of iced sweet tea and Coca-Cola. Mayor Ray Naign of New Orleans should be very worried. If the Mormons succeed in banning chocolate, will New Orleans be a “chocolate city”? If you like to eat or drink what you want it is time to go stand with the gays because when the Christian Taliban finish with them, the rest of us are next.

Arizona Judge Bans The Term Illegal and Aliens

November 8th, 2008 by Quan Tranh

Our friends at IBLOGA have found this little gem. A judge in Arizona has banned the term “illegal” and “aliens” in his court room. This does present a problem if you want to get a point across. I believe that we should look to how the British would describe the situation. Perhaps the term, “improper border traversers” would work. It does sound quite pleasant, especially when combined with tea and crumpets.

Not Everything Is Equal

November 2nd, 2008 by Quan Tranh

The concept of a clan is something that many people have a hard time dealing with. Brother Grimm seems to think that the concept of society is exactly the same as a clan except on a larger scale. How can you shoot down the concept of subsidized health care while applying a shared agreement with a clan? All clans are in competition with each other for resources or in the case of the modern world, jobs which provide money which provide resources. Supporting all of society reduces the comparative advantage that you and your family have in competing for those resources. Since resources are limited it would be self defeating to follow such a course of action. If you were around in the 1990′s when the Internet boom hit you will remember that HTML “programmers” were making $300/hr easily because there were too few of them around to meet demand. As more people learned how to “program” in HTML and tools such as Front Page and Dreamweaver came along the value of this occupation dropped. The same is true with traditional occupations such as doctor or lawyer. The difficulty of obtaining the education and experience keeps the market rate high; however, if the survivability of others is enhanced it will drive down the value of all occupations due to dilution. Choosing to join together as a family unit is something you are not forced into, but it is to your advantage. Being forced into a societal family unit is not a choice and it does not benefit you directly. This is the difference between cooperation within small groups and a whole society. By keeping competition for resources at the forefront those who are the “have nots” will be enhanced by competing for those resources. We have seen this with countless categories of immigrants. Irish and Italians no longer wanted to work in factories so they made the decisions that lead to getting out of those jobs. Asians work in nail salons and dry cleaners until they earn enough money to go to college or send their kids to college. Latinos move from agriculture to prominent places in society in a very short amount of time. This is what white and black people have forgotten. Both races have a sense of entitlement and believe that pulling yourself up the ladder is not that important. I’ve known many white people who are angry at outsourcing jobs to India or Mexicans who lower the market price of lawn work. They ask, why can’t I make a decent living as a programmer or why can’t I charge $60/hr to cut grass and make a decent living? Well this is what happens when you have too many people on the planet. According to the UN there are over 200 million people that are unemployed across the globe. That says that the planet has 200 million people too many, just for starters.

This leads us to my second point. Society means global, not just the United States. To spread the wealth around means hugging trees and singing kumbaya with the whole human race. Does Al-Qaeda deserve the same consideration your clan does? In a black and white world the answer is no. Even in a world with infinite shades of grey the answer is still no. Both the USSR and the EU have dabbled in socialism with less than stellar results. Presently the United States through capitalism has shown the greatest level of success for its people. You can’t get off the boat in France and become a millionaire in less than 20 years through hard work. Keep in mind that millions aren’t a lot in a world where a starter condo in the city will cost you more than half a million in most markets. China and Vietnam are communist on paper, but there has always been a system of payoffs and tipping to assure proper service. Since these are the two largest and most powerful Asian economies it stands to reason that the quality of life is coming up through capitalism modeled after the United States. The key objective is to put yourself in a position to better your situation, rather than thinking you can ride through life cutting grass for a living. Asians have long understood that you need to first go after what will enable you to improve your life, then pursue what you really like later on. I would also like to point out that the concept of clan transcends national boundaries. It’s a global economy and Americans will be working everywhere, therefore those that work abroad will need all their resources rather than having them redistributed to people who don’t live in the same country where they are working. When working in Dubai should we spread the wealth around to them as well as Americans? When enlarging wealth redistribution on a global scale it makes even less sense than doing it in one country. It also lends opportunity to keep those excess 200 million people alive who will be competing with your children for resources. Some liberals may think that socialism will create a safer world for the children, but instead it will lead to a world where eventual poverty will arise because there are more people in the world than there is food. This may take many years to reach this point, but it will happen. This is why the family unit must be strengthened to weather economic and environmental forces at work. Some people will die from disease, crime, war, drunk driving, etc. but that is a fact of life. Not everyone wins the lottery, and when the grand prize is getting struck by lightning you should be hoping that you not in that 576000:1 odds of winning range. The objective everyone should be seeking is to make sure that other people are the ones to fall while your entire extended family can weather the storm. You can’t fix everything and fixing people you don’t know personally can’t be a factor when you have family and friends to worry about. Just remember when bad things happen to other people it’s to your benefit, especially when you take steps to reduce the risk of those things affecting your clan.

Why Health Care Should Not Be Redistributed

November 1st, 2008 by Quan Tranh

In a counterpoint to Brother Grimm’s bad argument for socialized healthcare I would like to point out that the reasoning behind his bad argument are flawed. First of all Government should be minimalist and all of the Libertarian flaws that he points out regarding affordable roads and police forces are foolish. In is an inevitable fact every family will become more wealthy over time. I must qualify that “family” is meant in the Asian sense of the word to mean the entire clan, not just a mother, father, and immediate children. When wealth is pooled across an entire clan it is possible to afford private police forces and private road repair. Just look at many Asian communities and you will find private policing and private funding paving roads more often than the government does.

Back to the story of paying for other people’s health care there are many reasons why the government should not get their grubby hands on our clan’s money to pay for some other clan’s problems. First is the feasibility issue. In a clan structure you are indebted to your relatives to chip in where they chipped in for you. For example, if your 3 uncles helped pay for your college, then you need to chip in to help pay for their children’s college. Since you have no control over how many children they have had you might be chipping in quite a bit. You also have to look at the cost of private nursing when your elders become too old to take care of themselves. That is quite a burden on the individual and I’m not quite sure how one can afford to take care of their own family, pay for private police and roads, contribute to charitable causes and pay higher taxes to cover people that aren’t related to you and who aren’t going to be contributing to the success of your family.

Military Generals must make life and death decisions every day. CEO’s must decide what is worth it to the business. As an individual you are a General and CEO for your immediate family and if you are among your elder council you are the Board of Directors for your entire clan. Socialized medicine has no place in a world where you can ask The Board for help with your medical expenses. In addition as CEO of your household you have the responsibility to decide on the proper course of action. In the case of Tyler, his parents chose to engage in deficit spending based on human emotion and hope that things would end up ok. They ended up losing in the end and have a huge debt burden to cover now. How is this my problem? Is it my uncle’s problem? My 5 year old 1st cousin’s problem? No, we aren’t related to the family in question, therefore we owe them nothing unless it is out of charity. As rulers of the household the parents could have came to the conclusion that there was no ROI to be had by spending money on treatment after the first round. Perhaps they may have opted out of treatment entirely or tried holistic medicine. Sometimes the responsible thing to do is say that treatment is not worth the burden it will place on our checkbook and our relative’s checkbook. Responsible does not always equal kind or fair, but life isn’t fair. Get over it.

Grimm is totally off base when he says it is time to step up.

If we are the nation that we all say that we are, it is time to step up, pitch in, make sure your friends and neighbors aren’t left to the tender mercies of Social Darwinism and come up with a solution. Insurance companies aren’t going to do it. Doctors and hospitals aren’t going to do it. We have to do it as one nation, under God (or Allah, Buddha, Vishnu, or the Flying Spaghetti Monster. Insert the deity of your choice here), indivisible, with liberty and justice for all, not just those who can afford it.

Darwinism is a necessity that human society has attempted to eliminate. The animal kingdom has gains and losses and attempts to tamper with the balance have resulted in the need to cull the herd. Deer populations have exploded with the elimination of natural predatory forces. As a result we have licensed slaughters of deer referred to as hunting season. Don’t think that communist countries magically solve all of society’s woes. Government run homeless shelters sometimes overflow leaving some people out on the street in the cold. What happens when you have too many people to take care of? In the Eastern Bloc communist party youth sometimes took to setting homeless people on fire to reduce the consumption on the system. That may not happen in America literally, but it shows that once the system is overloaded measures must be taken to bring it back into equilibrium. This may mean reducing coverage or creating a shortage, meaning long lines for critical care. The latter means that the government would deliberately create a shortage so many people would die off before money is spent on their treatment. That would be the same as figuratively setting people on fire, so you can say we’re a bit better off than the USSR was. In modern China the people have to buy their own insurance because the government coverage is useless. There is minimal government coverage for general practitioners and if you need a specialist you have to cover that yourself. That’s modern socialism for you. With economic theory the opportunity cost is what you give up to get something else. What socialized medicine does is it takes free will out of the individual’s opportunity cost analysis. There is no reason to give up some of your family’s wealth and comparative advantage to assist someone else. This is especially true when the world is facing a population crisis. We need more Darwinism and other population controls, not less. By maintaining the status quo we are maintaining an environmentally friendly platform. Most liberals are perfectly fine with abortion, but want to expend tons of resources once the child is born. Conservatives on the other hand are likely to take the opposite approach and expend tons of resources protecting an unborn human, but spend little on its development after it is born. We need to mesh both of these philosophies to reduce the population before it goes up and to get rid of some of the population that is here.

There comes a time it is not possible to justify the costs associated with a particular situation, no matter what that situation is. A company will not expend millions of dollars on a losing venture and will stop funding the effort once it is apparent that no amount of money thrown at the problem can turn the situation around. Insurance is referred to as a vehicle of Risk Transference. What is left over is residual risk; however, many people choose not to quantify those risks and choose to spend themselves into oblivion without stopping at a hard number. Socialized health care will result in shifting that decision out to a government bureaucrat who will be making those same life and death choices for you based on how much money is left in the pot. The situation is exactly the same after introducing socialized medicine. Since the situation will be exactly the same in the end, except that personal liberty will be reduced, and that we will be fighting against Darwinism when the human race is overpopulating the planet, there seems to be no reason to switch philosophies regarding the care of your fellow man. Therefore I believe it is ok to say, “Tough Shit” unlike Brother Grimm. That’s not to say I wouldn’t be swayed in the future. Check back in with me when we reduce the planet’s population by a minimum of 200 million.

Heated Seats Just What the Doctor Ordered

October 19th, 2008 by Quan Tranh

Studies have shown that heated seats in some luxury cars may impair sperm production. It is too early to draw any conclusions, but this is promising news. We should do more studies into this to determine if all Catholics and Muslims should have to own luxury cars. Winter temperatures in Europe and North America favor using Catholics as early test subjects, while the Middle East presents more of a challenge. Night temperatures can be quite chilly at various times during the year, therefore we will have a smaller window to test the hypothesis.

This is very exciting. Hybrids truly are the future of luxury automobiles. By not emitting greenhouse gases these vehicles contribute to global cooling. Combine global cooling with heated seats, which hopefully results in reduced population and we have a very green vehicle indeed. Thank you Lexus and Rolls Royce!

Term Sex Offender Just Lost All Meaning

October 18th, 2008 by Quan Tranh

A 15 year old girl in Licking County, Ohio has been charged with felony child pornography. Her crime? Taking photos of herself. Yeah, you got it. Some idiot prosecutor seems to think it’s ok to charge this girl with a felony and make her register as a sex offender for 20 years. First of all this joker by the name of Kenneth Oswalt doesn’t know the difference between victim and perpetrator. If the girl is in child porn photos then she is the victim. Obviously Kenneth Oswalt is an anti-feminist who believes that victims should be charged. Why else would he be trying to hold women down if he weren’t anti-feminist? I think that McCain/Palin just found their new Attorney General.

The thing that really scares me about this asshole and his staff is that they have less common sense than even Sarah Palin.

Licking County Assistant Prosecutor Erin Welch said Monday the investigation into the incident remains open, including exploring whether charges will be filed against the minors who received the photos.

If the prosecutor’s office elects to bring those teens into court, they could be facing a different section of the same charge pending against the sender of the pictures and classification as sex offenders, as well.

According to Ohio law, 2907.323(A)(3) states anyone possessing material that shows a minor in a state of nudity is guilty of a fifth-degree felony. The violation also might qualify the juvenile as a Tier I sexual offender, which requires annual registration for a decade.

Whoa! Hang on a second! According to Erin Welch if you suddenly receive child porn via MMS or email your ass is going to jail. ADA Welch is also gunning for a job in the US AG office. This is PATRIOT ACT style bullshit if I’ve ever seen it. So let this be a lesson to everyone. If somebody takes pictures of child pornography and decides they want you to go to jail all they have to do is send you the pictures and you go away for a very long time.

The other crazy thing here is that she’s being charged as an adult taking pictures of a minor. The only problem here is that she’s the minor. Now if the court is going to acknowledge that she’s an adult under criminal code, then why is she being charged at all. At that point she’s an adult posing for pornography. Make up your fucking mind Mr. Oswalt.

The other person we can blame are State Rep. Hottinger (R-Newark) who wrote the state’s Megan’s Law bill, predecessor to the Adam Walsh Act. Hottinger admits that he didn’t consider the implications of minors taking pictures of themselves. He seems to think things are black or white and because of him, an innocent girl is going to jail, a group of teenaged boys who received the picture are going to jail, and the taxpayers of Ohio are going to have to foot the bill.

I’ll also take a moment to bash President Bush as well. He signed the Adam Walsh Act on July 27, 2006 which strong arms states into complying with silly regulations or losing 10% of a federal law enforcement grant. All 50 states should lose 100% of federal funding under the Adam Walsh Act and should have to figure out their own regulations.

There is so much government waste in this one story alone that you have to wonder how we aren’t 100% broke or serving 100 years in jail.

In case you want to write Mr. Oswalt and tell him what an asshat he is, the address is listed below.

US Military Goes Sharia

October 6th, 2008 by Quan Tranh

I discovered this one via Digg and I must say that it is a really tragic story. Apparently some idiots in the Military came up with a rule that it is illegal for soldiers to befriend animals while in the field. For some reason dogs are on the shit list. Does this mean that our military has been infiltrated by Terrorists?

Baghdad Pups is a rescue organization that is dedicated to bringing the friends of our soldiers home. A cute little dog was in their care and was confiscated by the military shortly before his plane ride home. Apparently some commanding officer is busy preparing for jihad by cleansing the world of filthy dogs. Now the really scary thing is this release by the SPCA

“Soldiers can face immediate court-marshal [for befriending animals] and some even see their animals brutally murdered by a direct gunshot to the head from commanding officers who will not bend the rules.”

Now under any reasonable definition of the law shooting an animal because you can is cruelty to animals. The fact that the military targets dogs, which are unclean in Islam, is pure proof in my opinion that our military has been hijacked by terrorists of the worst kind. Whoever this commanding officer is, he needs to be detained under the PATRIOT ACT for supporting terrorism. If you act like the terrorists then you are one.
