Fallout Central Debate Over

That was good clean fun with William and Albert over at Fallout Central. Lots of good issues were discussed regarding JV & Elvis. We did maintain that this is a literary issue and that it is up to the advertisers to make the decision. Albert is of the opinion that the Jessie Jacksification of the Asian-American people is a good thing. I must respectfully disagree. We are not an abused race and we do not need to start acting like victims. I do not see Asians being abused by the media. Unfortunately I see a Yellow Panthers movement brewing where Albert stated (paraphrasing) Asians are tired of being pushed around and the anger is building. I don’t see the pushing, but obviously this can’t be good for those of us that don’t want to be lumped in with the whiners.
Albert did mention that the Libertarian live and let live philosophy is the opposite of the PC slippery slope. Again I must respectfully disagree. All speech, including hate speech must be protected. I am not ready to throw the Constitution out the window because of fear. As much as I dislike the Skinheads and Ku Klux Klan I would be in the streets marching for their right to say what they want to say.

Are you serious? There are countless stories and examples of how Asian Americans are not offered anything except racial stereotypical and degrading roles. Are you ignoring the elephant in the room and indulging in selective ignorance?
I doubt this debate would even be an issue if there was a balance between negative and positive roles for Asian Americans in American media such as television, movies, and advertisements. Instead, you have a massive gap and whenever you have a huge imbalance, you’re bound to have problems. Essentially, it follows the idea of Yin-Yang and balance. Once you obtain balance, you have harmony.
The reason why so many are angry about this is because the representations are so lopsided. Revolutions happen when the gap between the “have’s” and “have not’s” gets larger. The bigger the gap, the bigger the strife and anger.
It’s the same problem here. Right now, the ratio between negative and positive roles are 1000:1 but if the roles were more balanced such as 3:1, there would be far less outcry. I’ve talked to many of those “outraged” Doghouse fans and everyone agreed that my argument makes sense.
No one likes to be portrayed in a negative fashion. Republicans constantly rail against the liberal media and how they’re portrayed as racist, why don’t Asian Americans have the right to be outraged when an unequal balance is leveled their way?

Yes I am serious. I don’t see any Asians I know being abused by the media. Perhaps you would like to read Why Racial Acceptance Does Not Matter for a better understanding of my point of view, noting the last category of people. No one likes to be portrayed in a negative fashion. Notice you used the word one. Unless you’re portrayed individually by name where slander or libel could be introduced then you are not being portrayed. Generalizations about Asians are not offensive, because they’re about “other Asians”. Until someone says something about Quan or someone he knows it’s fair game. If I don’t know you personally how do I know any negative portrayal of you is not true?
