Va. lawmaker draws fire for slavery comment
January 17th, 2007 by Quan Tranh
In a brilliant move Frank D. Hargrove said black people should “get over” slavery. Hargrove has the right idea. Immigrants to the US concentrate on the future and do not dwell on the past. People like Al Sharpton and Jesse Jackson are keeping the black community buried in the past. Black leaders such as Bill Cosby are the future and they see that the youth need to concentrate on building a future rather than complaining about the past.
When somebody tells me I should just get over slavery, I can only express my emotion by projecting that I am appalled, absolutely appalled,” said Del. Dwight C. Jones, head of the Legislative Black Caucus.
Mr. Jones sounds like he needs a good dose of get over it himself.
