War on Terror and War on Drugs Converge

Canadian troops fighting Taliban militants in Afghanistan have stumbled across an unexpected and potent enemy — almost impenetrable forests of 10-feet-high marijuana plants. “The challenge is that marijuana plants absorb energy, heat very readily. It’s very difficult to penetrate with thermal devices … and as a result you really have to be careful that the Taliban don’t dodge in and out of those marijuana forests,” said General Rick Hillier, chief of the Canadian defense staff.
It’s almost comical to picture the enemy running around in a pot field. White phosphorous and disel have had little effect on the plants due to the high water content. Our good Canadian friends need a lesson in fighting the Viet Cong. Napalm dropped on the jungles of Vietnam was mildly effective in dealing with people hiding in the dense jungles. The other possibility is to send Phish to Afghanistan and have a tree hugging peace concert. With all those hippies the marijuana won’t be a problem.
