This Month’s Hanoi Hilton Award Goes To Phil Carroll

May 10th, 2006 by Quan Tranh

The AJC is reporting on the saga of Beth Anne Cox at Peachtreeridge High School. She was singing a parody of “On Top of Ol’ Smokey”. It seemed innocent enough, but in a post Columbine era her teacher Phil Carroll freaked out and filed a complaint against her for making threats.

What she did was perceived to be threatening,” [Spokesman] Roach said. “It caused a disruption, and the remarks were inappropriate. Based on the facts, the decision was made. It was an appropriate response.”

Notice the word perceived. Obviously Dr. Carroll must be some passive hippie who is afraid of his own shadow. Unless some threatening language is directed at you specifically, I would find it difficult as a juror to rule that you were in fear of your life. That would fall under the not guilty by lack of balls category. True, the act of singing in class was disruptive and somewhat inappropriate but it certainly does not compare to the security threat of Mahmoud Ahmadinejad saying Jews must be wiped off the map.

Way to go Dr. Carroll! You should be sent to the Hanoi Hilton for filing a false complaint to authorities as there is no real way anyone can see that you were threatened. You also stand accused of wasting Gwinnett taxpayer money on defending the public school system from a clearly avoidable lawsuit. By your actions you clearly wish harm upon your employer and the taxpayers of Gwinnett County. You should also grow some balls and not be frightened so easily. Perhaps teaching German is a way to expand your manliness, which you clearly lack.
Unfortunately the faculty isn’t listed on the school website, so any complaints will have to go to the Principal via snail mail or phone.
