Saudi telecom stops text vote for Arab talent show

December 27th, 2005 by Quan Tranh

Common sense has evaded the middle east again. Apparently sending text messages with your phone can be immoral depending on what you do with your text messages. For some reason the religious nutjobs have issued a fatwa that a Lebanese reality show is immoral and using your phone to vote on the show happenings is unislamic.  I never realized it was possible to do something that would make you hellbound with your phone.  But in order to save the souls of immoral muslims everywhere Mobily along with Saudi Telecom have decided to block text messages from reaching the show’s producers.  I guess that will teach those young people!  Now they’ll have to sit down at a computer and vote.  Think of all the money that these telecoms are losing because of a few Wahhabi fundamentalists who think everything is evil.

as a californian muslim, i have to say the saudia arabia is a horrible exmple of muslims, cause the wahabi sect was a political movement that took over with the help of britain, a long time ago. we do not have kings in Islam, unlike saudia arabia. that government is not a representation of us. second, even though i do not know the whole situation, it does seem silly to ban phone calls to a lebanese television station, but i think you are overreacting about corporations loosing money because of that. why do you care about corporatons anyway? they are more corrupt than any government, when you really look at ti – -theytake advantage of poorer countries for cheap labor, etc. read the book coffesions of an ecomonic hitman. one more thing, i think befpe you critisize the middle east, a.) leave religion out of it, even though many arabs are supposidley “muslim” many are christian, while most muslims are not arab. look at the cham people in viet nam – - many of them are muslims and the live very peacefully. b.) you have to understand the history since world war one (at the very least) to have a slight idea why the middle east is the way it is. like viet name was taken over by the french, lebanon and other arabic countries were invented and were controlled by the french, while others, britatin took, and just like viet nam, that means much suffering and civil war later. arabs really do stink at war, because unlike viet nam, the french were not kicked out by the war, and lebanese still have french as one of their official languages, granted, now the french government gives money to lebanon, there is still much political unrest in the regions beacause of what france and britain did to the middle east. not to mention that it is a known fact that america had a coue to overthrow the firt democratically elected president of iran because he wanted to nationalize the oil. the u.s. re-installed the sha(a king) to iran because america wanted “strong one man domination” for the middle east becuase they felt that “was in america’s interrest. the problem with establishing thug governments in the middle east is that you later have problems for the people of that government, and later, after they do not want to be your puppet anymore, for america. that is what happened with bin laden, with sadaam, etc. another thing about the iraq war, the insurgeant that arebombing eachother, you can tell there is a third party involved because sunni and shiites did not bomb eachother’s mosques before. on kpfk radio, there was an announcement that the iraqi police arrested suspicious-acting people, found homemade-lke bombs in their car. it turned out tht those people were members of the british army dress like “iraqi civilians.” i am not supprised because this would not be the first time britian tried to ignite a rift to cause trouble, look at india and pakistan. no wonder people in the middle east do not trust america’s government when they pretend to bring democracy to a people. with the uranium bombs having a long term effect with cancer, the people will suffer. isn’t democracy about the people?? or just america’s people?

all i am saying is know your history before you talk. islam says “we(God) created you all from a mother and a father, and into tribes, then nations so you would come to know and respect eachother” not to kill eachother. Note 15 (Quran Ref: 49:13 )
I.e., “We have created every one of you out of a father and a mother” (Zamakhshari , Razi, Baydawi) – implying that this equality of biological origin is reflected in the equality of the human dignity common to all.(Quran Ref: 49:13 )

this makes more sense than any of the political parties trying to portray the middle east as a place with no sense.
