N.Y. school cancels prom, citing ‘decadence’

School officials have really lost it this time.
“It is not primarily the sex/booze/drugs that surround this event, as problematic as they might be; it is rather the flaunting of affluence, assuming exaggerated expenses, a pursuit of vanity for vanity’s sake — in a word, financial decadence,” Hoagland said, fed up with what he called the “bacchanalian aspects.”
This is a prime example of political correctness gone awry. Prom is a great opportunity for young people to learn about the finer points of expensive clothing and showing up somewhere half way presentable. Is there a difference between Prom and the typical corporate holiday party? There’s expensive clothing, booze, and trying to show up eveyone else there. Sounds like some people are just worried that teenagers are indulging too much.
