N.Y. school cancels prom, citing ‘decadence’

October 16th, 2005 by Quan Tranh

School officials have really lost it this time.

“It is not primarily the sex/booze/drugs that surround this event, as problematic as they might be; it is rather the flaunting of affluence, assuming exaggerated expenses, a pursuit of vanity for vanity’s sake — in a word, financial decadence,” Hoagland said, fed up with what he called the “bacchanalian aspects.”

This is a prime example of political correctness gone awry. Prom is a great opportunity for young people to learn about the finer points of expensive clothing and showing up somewhere half way presentable. Is there a difference between Prom and the typical corporate holiday party? There’s expensive clothing, booze, and trying to show up eveyone else there. Sounds like some people are just worried that teenagers are indulging too much.

Hitler Sighting

October 16th, 2005 by Quan Tranh

The Governor’s race in Virginia has spawned Hitler.

The Republican candidate for Virginia governor is drawing fire for campaign ads that suggest his Democratic opponent is so averse to the death penalty he would have spared Adolph Hitler from execution.

A commercial featuring death penalty proponent Stanley Rosenbluth has him looking into the camera and saying: “Tim Kaine says Adolf Hitler doesn’t qualify for the death penalty. This was one of the worst mass murderers in modern times.”

Interesting spin on bringing the “H” word into an election. The real question is not whether or not the accusation is in bad tastes, it is whether or not certain people deserve the death penalty. Does Osama deserve to die by being devoured by wild boar?

I’ve also got a problem with some of these Jewish groups saying that this trivializes the Holocaust and that the commercials should be stopped. Can we say last century? Yes it was a very important event to the Jews, but can I get some equal time for the fall of Saigon, Mr. Rabbi?

MADD?

October 5th, 2005 by Quan Tranh

MADD has also worked to undermine the criminal protections of accused drunk drivers — protections routinely granted to accused murderers, rapists and other felony crimes. MADD, for example, has pushed to impose tougher penalties on motorists who refuse to take roadside breath tests than on those who take them and fail — effectively turning the Fifth Amendment on its ear. The organization also favors “administrative license revocation,” which means the revocation of the driver’s licenses and, in some cases, the confiscation of the vehicles, of those accused of drunken driving before they’re ever given a trial.

MADD is also pushing its agenda onto family laws, including a zero tolerance policy for divorced parents. Under the bills MADD is trying to push through state legislatures, a parent caught consuming one beer or glass of wine before driving could face penalties that, according to MADD, “should include, but are not limited to” — “incarceration,” “change of primary custody,” or “termination of parental rights.” This means that if you take your kid to the game, have a beer in the third inning, then drive home, you could very well lose your rights as a father.

MADD has gone mad. I used to believe organizations such as MADD and SADD were a great asset to the community. Now I’m not so sure. As the FOX News article says, MADD has prided themselves on lowering the BAC level to .08. Considering that most DUIs are in the above .15 range lowering it from .12 is like lowering the speedlimit by 5mph to stick it to people going 100mph. I’ve also never been a fan of forfeiture of property either. Why should you have to surrender your vehicle if you haven’t been to trial? Sounds like a case of guilty until proven innocent.

Famous Last Words

October 5th, 2005 by Quan Tranh

Ray Naggin made the statement today that his layoff of city workers is “pretty permanent”. Isn’t that what a layoff is? Too much gumbo or too much time playing in the mud?

TSA Comes To The NFL

October 2nd, 2005 by Quan Tranh

The NFL has instituted a new policy to pat down people going into stadiums. The line at the Georgia Dome today was over 2 hours long. Is this really necessary? I guess terrorists are planning to hijack the stadium and fly it into the neighboring buildings.

Abort This

October 2nd, 2005 by Quan Tranh

William Bennett, a conservative radio commentator, provoked outrage for saying on his talk show on Wednesday: “If you wanted to reduce crime, you could, if that were your sole purpose, you could abort every black baby in this country and your crime rate would go down.

“That would be an impossibly ridiculous and morally reprehensible thing to do, but your crime rate would go down,” he said on his call-in show Morning In America.

For some silly reason people are upset by this comment and calling it racist. Idiot Senator Frank Lautenberg of the great smelly state of New Jersey is going to introduce a resolution condemning Bennett’s comments. Even Howard “The Scream” Dean is sounding off on this issue calling the comments “hateful, inflammatory”.

First let’s take it literally and don’t forget that he wasn’t advocating going out and doing anything. If you abort black babies you’ll have a smaller population. A smaller population means less people to committ crime. The same goes for aborting all white babies, all latino babies, and all asian babies too. I’m totally confused as to why Americans think this is inflammatory. If you want to reduce the amount of goose shit in an area get rid of the geese by boiling their eggs for dinner.
